The Ultimate Beauty Treat

Finally the hush-hush is now over. We can officially invite you all to what we have been sweating our pants off for the last weeks!

April is a very big deal to both Bex and I, not only is it our Birthday month but also because it is the anniversary of Mixxed! Oh yeah baby Triple Whammy!!! Mixxed started as a joke in one of our odd passing conversations and now we couldn't believe we are celebrating our 2nd year. It wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for all our Mixxedolls and as a thank you we have teamed up with amazing people to give you an UH-MAZE-BALLS beauty treat because that's how we roll sugars. Our Mixxedolls deserves the best and that's what we have in store for you.

Anyway, I think that's enough to build the momentum right there so here is the official invite.

Now that we got that covered. Here's how it's going to get even more interesting...

From March 29-April 12 each of us in this collaboration will be doing contests and giving out prizes which we will be sharing in our Facebook page. We wouldn't want you to miss that would we?!

However for our Mixxedolls, from April 2-6, 2012 Mixxed will be having a giveaway contest on our Facebook page. Yes ladies you read that right, Giveaway Contest with a capital G.C LOL

We will be posting questions everyday from April 2-6 and all you need to do is answer them. I know we are probably asking you to be glued to your computer but don't you do that all the time?! Now if you do it on April 2-6 you'd get a chance to win amazing prizes.

Everyday we will pick a winner who will get a Gift Certificate for a photoshoot with a fabulous professional Photographer Abotz. Here's the link to her Facebook page if you want to be in awe! (Abotz) Oh and did I mention there will be goodie bags from us on the day of the shoot?!

However, for those who will not win do not sulk because we got that covered as well. On April 7 we will pick another 5 people who have answered the questions to get a Gift Certificate from Mixxed.

If this isn't the Ultimate Beauty Treat then I don't know what is.

So ladiess, mark your calendars, March 29-April 12! And Mixxedolls, April 2-6...be sure to 'capture' this. *wink*

Here's a big fat kiss for sticking with us for the past 2 years.

Book It! March!

Okay I know I’m way too old to be acting like a teenager, but I just can’t help it. I’m totally hooked with the book called The Iron King by Julie Kagawa and I totally fell in-love with the two male characters, Puck and Ash. It’s obnoxious to think that I've even dreamt that I was Meghan (the girl heroine in the book). I know, it is a childish act, but it is quite an interesting read and I can't stop thinking about it.
I have to admit, I wasn't as anxious to read the book at first, but since Jcel and I have this challenge to read 50 books in one year, I have to give my self a little push to read the books that I've left off so many months ago. But when I started reading it again, I was engrossed and could not put it down. Much to my amazement some of the book's characters are from the Midsummer Nights Dream. If you are familiar with it, then you'd be amaze to find Oberon, Titania and the infamous Robin Goodfellow etc.

I don’t want to be spoiling too much for those who have not read or is planning to read it, but I’m telling you, it’s one of those easy read but will captivate you to read more because it is just simply out of the ordinary that kind of book :)
On the other hand, I have just finished The Winter's Passage - an Iron Fey novella.  It's quite short but it's worth the read before jumping to Book 2 - The Iron Daughter. Which I also have just recently finished reading. It's just gets better and better  and now I'm off reading the 3rd book - The Iron Queen.

Okay, aside from those three books, I am also currently reading DELIRIUM - I am still on my 7th chapter so it's still a long way before I could finish it. At the moment, it has not sink-in my head yet, so I am in between loving and getting annoyed that the book seems to have more chapters than I thought. But on how Jcel summarized and totally left me hanging on what's going to happen, I have no choice but to keep reading it. Anyways, I decided to read it on my way to work and going back home that way, I know soon enough I'd finish it. So, another one bites the dust on not making on my "March Books I've read List". But nonetheless, I am quite happy of where this is going. So far, I have read 6 books and (is) currently reading 2 more books to add on the list. So stay tuned for April update! I still have plenty of great books to read ... Christian novels perhaps?!

Update on books I've read;
February 2012
     1)    Sydney Sheldon – If Tomorrow Comes
2)    Sophie Kinsella – I’ve Got Your Number

March 2012
3)   Sidney Sheldon – Nothing Lasts Forever
4)   The Iron King – Julie Kagawa
5)   The Winter's Passage (Iron Fey Novella) - Julie Kagawa
6)   The Iron Daughter - Julie Kagawa

Currently Reading;
1)    Delirium
2)    The Iron Queen

Brush Series: Cheeks

As promised our 2nd lesson is going to be Cheeky! We've enlisted all the brushes you would need to pump-up those rosy cheeks of yours. These are only basic knowledge of what brush is best for what kind of blush. Let’s get started, shall we?!

  1. Cheekbones (powder blush): Look for natural hair bristles and an angled tip to perfectly sculpt and shape cheekbones. To find where yours are, look in the mirror and suck in your cheeks or do the fish face as others would say, then work the brush directly on them using short strokes as you make your way across towards your ears.

  1. Apples (powder blush): Look for natural bristles and a plump body with a pointed tip for the best precision when applying blush to the apples of your cheeks.  To find where yours are, look in the mirror and smile; your apples will literally pop out like little golf balls.  Swirl the blush in circular motions directly on top of them.

  1. Stippling (cream blush): Look for synthetic bristles in two layers that are different colors, a dark set that is dense and short and a lighter set that is long and sparse. This design picks up two layers when you gently dip it in your cream blush, allowing for different outcomes when swirling it from the apples across your cheekbones (light pressure = sheer finish, heavier pressure = satin finish). Then blend edges with your fingers.

  1. Contouring (cream or powder bronzer): Look for synthetic bristles if you are using a cream bronzer or a cream foundation three shades darker than your skin tone; look for natural bristles if you are using a bronzing powder.  Using short strokes, trace the product directly under your cheekbone in the hollows of your cheeks, up to your temples, across your hairline and under your jawline.

  1. Highlighting (loose or pressed highlighting powder): Look for natural bristles in a fan shape that feel light and airy on your skin. This design is perfect for sweeping a shimmery highlighting powder directly above your cheekbones using light, downward strokes. Bonus: fan brushes were originally developed to “dust” away excess powder or shadow particles, so next time you create a smoky eye and there are little black shadow droppings that have fallen on your cheeks, use your fan brush like a duster to sweep them away.

  1. Bronzing (loose or pressed powder bronzer): Look for natural bristles with a rounded head for the most even application.  Unlike using bronzer for contouring, here we’re using it to look sunkissed, so this brush design is ideal to evenly distribute, diffuse and blend the powder as you swirl it all over your face and neck.

  1. Blending (everything!): Look for short and dense natural bristles that cover almost two inches in diameter and is the ultimate blender to use following blush, bronzer or powder application.  Bonus trick: if you use a foundation or bronzer that comes in a spray can, instead of applying it directly to your face, spray it in the palm of your hand, dip the brush in it then swirl it all over your face and neck for an airbrushed look that is simply gorgeous.

Brush Series: Eyes

It’s a no brainer that makeup is an expression of Art and Creativity. And as with all artists you need the perfect tools to create a masterpiece but with all the products out in the market it can get overwhelming sometimes and this is where Mixxed comes in handy. Not only do we provide you with the tools we will also be giving you the breakdown on how to use them. How awesome are we?! LOL

Anyway, let’s get it started. We will begin this class with the EYES!

  • LID: Look for a natural-bristled brush that is dense yet thin, tapered and medium in length. My favorite way to use this brush is to wet it first with a little water, tap off the excess then dip it in a shadow in swirling motions to create a paste of sorts.  Then swirl it on the back of your hand to perfect the consistency (might have to dip again in the shadow until it is right) and to smooth away any clumps, then sweep it over your entire lid for a more intense effect with longer staying power. ** Note: wetting shadows works best with shimmer or metallics, not matte shades.
  • CREASE: Here you’ll want a pointy “bullet-shaped” tapered tip made of natural bristles that fits perfectly in the crease for when you want to create a smoky eye.
  • BLENDING: This brush works like a windshield wiper, sweeping back and forth over both the lid and crease to blend all colors together and smooth away any hard edges.  A step that you don’t want to skip, ladies!
  • LINER (PICK ONE FROM THIS ROW): Because there are so many amazing long-lasting gel liners out there now (you know them, they come in smudge pots and have revolutionized eyeliner!), you’ll need a liner brush.  The easiest one to use (for me) is the angled brush.  It’s bent so you can apply it with your eye open while looking in a mirror.
  • BROW: Look for a double-ended brush that has a spooly (looks like a mascara wand) on one end and a slanted brush on the other end so you can brush them up and over before you fill them in with a powder.
  • SMUDGE: This brush evolved in the last few years and quickly has become a favorite of mine! Look for one with a flat head, short and dense natural bristles as it gives you the best precision for smoking out lines.

It might be a lot to take in just one post and one category but once you get the neck of things it will come to you easily. Nonetheless all these are basic use of brushes there are no right or wrong in here so feel free to use them in any way you want. I cannot tell you how many times I have used a blending brush for spot-concealing my blemishes. It’s perfect because it gives an airbrush effect to the spot.

Next time we will tackle some Cheeky brushes, get it?! LOL

Enjoy your makeup journey and most importantly have fun.

Ocean Park-ing

So the BF celebrated his birthday yesterday and as a gift I surprised him to a day of being a kid. Yes indeedy to Ocean Park we go! And the fun part, on my side, is that because it is his birthday we don't need to pay for this entrance fee plus I get 50% discount. Score!!! Yes he thought it was very smart of me to gift him something that is already free. Haha I am notorious for being ultra thrifty when it comes to giving gifts that is why no one wants me to get their names when we do Christmas Santas. Oh well... going back to Ocean Park, it has been about 5 years or so since I last went there so there were a lot of changes. But first of, here's a few facts to know about Ocean Park:

  • It is divided into 2 parts, The Waterfront  and The Summit.
  • The Summit is up in the mountains. So you need to take either a Cable Car or Express Train to get their from The Waterfront.
  • The Waterfront is where all the kiddie rides and activities are.
  • The Summit is where the extreme rides are, in short, for Adults only. LOL

We started in The Waterfront, went into all the museums, aquariums and ate infront of the Fountain, which is new by the way and also hold a water/light show in the evening called Symbio but we weren't able to watch that so I'm sorry I cannot give you further details.

We wanted to take the Express Train (new) to go up The Summit but unfortunately it was under renovation so we took the old school way, Cable Car.

In the Summit is where he went absolutely nuts! There were a few new rides from when we last visited so he wanted to ride all of them which is fine by me just as long as he keeps me out of it.

*Fun Fact: I do not ride rides.* LOL

Because he knows that I will not, in a million years, ride with him so he said we should visit all the less frisky rides and attractions. He said it was for me but I honestly think he was just summoning up some courage to ride the Hair Raiser rollercoaster. Hihi

We didn't ride any of the old, mainstream ones like Raging River, Space Wheel, Mine Train, Crazy Galleon. But there was a new water ride called, The Rapids. Everyone was preparing their raincoats and towels which is crazy because seriously it's a water ride and you don't want to get wet?! But anyway to our dismay we were only slightly wet and it wasn't really exciting so... BOO!

After going to a few attractions he suddenly blurted out "Okay I'm going to take Hair Raiser!" and he came out of there with a biggest grin I've seen in him. It was so cute.

However there was one ride that he couldn't get the nerve to ride, The Flash. Maybe because he'd have to do it alone. Oh well, there's a next time...

To sum up our Ocean Park experience it was absolutely Amaze-Balls! Despite the fogs, strong winds and slight showers I can really say we had a really fun time there. So do try it out and please watch the Symbio show and ride The Flash and let me know your experience with them.
