[CHOWTIME]: Mixxed Breakfast Club

We all know that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So what better way to start the morning? Have a full blast meal enough to keep you sated for the rest of the day. ( hehehe a bit of exaggeration right there! :D )

My best-friends and I would always meet up at least once or twice a month to keep each other updated (the old fashioned way) on things. But for a change, we opted to meet up for breakfast instead of having the usual dinner date. We had Dim Sun at Shamrock, tried the Breakfast Buffet at Novotel, tasted the "all day breakfast" at Caffe Habitu and the western breakfast at La Cafe Fontaine which is one of our favourite places to have breakfast.

There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast

Just recently, Jcel and I had the opportunity to dine in La Fontaine for two consecutive days. Too bad our other friend Crystal was not able to make it. The last time we had breakfast there (together) was a year ago since then they have relocated to the Lower Ground Floor, Jardine House

There's nothing exceptionally special about La Fontaine but it is good enough if you're craving for a western breakfast. But aside from Breakfast they also serve Pastas, Sandwiches and Curry. The plus side is that they are very affordable. So, it satisfies both your wallet and tummy. *double thumbs up*

Day 1:

Their regular breakfast set comes with 2 side dishes (of your choice) + Eggs (scrambled or sunny-side up) + toast bread and drinks (juice, tea or coffee)

Jcel's order:
Bacon with Onions + mushrooms + scrambled eggs + Toast bread + coffee

Bex's Order:
Baked beans + veal sausage + scrambled eggs + toast bread + coffee

As I have said the last time I was there was last year so when they brought our foods on our table, I was in awe. The scrambled eggs was perfect and the baked beans was surprisingly more than the usual serving. The veal sausages tasted good as well.

Day 2:

Jcel: Baked Salmon + mushrooms + scrambled eggs + toast bread + orange Juice

Bex: Bacon with Onions + veal Sausage (2 small pcs) + scrambled eggs + toast bread + orange Juice.

The orange juice was way too sour, in our opinion but I guess that's what you get for being Freshly Squeezed?

Their service was quick and staffs were friendly. The place was okay but it could use some de-cluttering but it's understandable cause they just moved. The bread seemed fresh and according to my "source" they actually bake it themselves.

Ratings:
Food: ****
Staff: ****
Place: ***
Price: ****

Price range: $60 - $100 per head

Would I recommend this place?

Definitely a YES! I can safely say you can't go wrong with La Fontaine, so give it a try and let us know what you think :)

Cheers!

MIXXED F.A.Q

Hey dolls, you all know that we started Mixxed and this blog to interact with you all and we love when people asks us questions because it proves that we have somewhat become interesting to others. *wink* So in order to wrap up all your queries and questions we’ve decided to make a blog post of the Frequently Asked Questions.

1. How did you get started with Mixxed?
= We thought we had tackled this question before. But here is the gist of it, we both wanted to start a business. Jcel pitched the idea of a beauty shop, Bex agreed and 2 years later, we have an online shop and added some apparel and accessories as well. :D

2. What is your real work?
= Because having a little shop isn’t REAL work, LOL. However to answer your question, yes we do have other things going besides running the business and it has something to do with books. Can you take a guess? LOL

3. Will there be another giveaway?
= When we first did the Beauty Collection Giveaway a few months back, we have truly enjoyed it and felt closer to you dolls and therefore yes we would love to do another giveaway, but of course, these things need time and good planning of the logistics. In case we will have one, what would you like to get?

4. When will you have VS lotions again?
= This is the winner of the MOST asked question. Believe it or not, when we do get our stock of VS lotions they rarely last for more than a month. This is our bestseller and we really REALLY want to supply them to you all as much as we could but as with our products our stock-takes have schedules but we promise to have them soon!

5. Where did you get your clothes?
= We can confirm that our clothes and beauty products are all from USA. Because most of our market are here in HK so there's really no point in selling something that's at their arms reach.

6. What other products will you have?
= We do have a few products in line for the shop as for when they will be launched is still in discussions. We’ll sure to make a big announcement when they are ready.

7. May discount ba ako? // Can I get a discount?
= We would love to give everyone a discount but to be honest our prices are the best we can offer and we make sure that they are all reasonable and affordable hence the less need for a discounted price. However prices do go down when we do our sales so be sure to grab those opportunities.

8. Do you have a shop in HK?
= This is something we would like in the future and really it’s easier said than done. There are a lot of things to consider when opening up a shop such as, size, location, staffs and most importantly, budget! We always discuss this during our meetings and hopefully this wish of ours will come true. In the meantime, you can shop with us in our Online Shop and Facebook page.

9. Do you have any staffs running the business for you?
= The answer is No. We truly believe that if you want a business to succeed you have to be very hands-on and also our shop isn't at its Big Time level yet there's not a need for us to get staffs.

10. Are you guys always together and How do manage not to be bored of each other?
= Funny enough this has been asked A LOT! So here it is, we work in the same company, we run the same business so Yes we are ALWAYS together if we aren't then expect us to be WhatsApp-ing each other.  But believe it or not there's always something we talk and laugh about and truth be told we haven't really gotten tired of each other yet and it's not something we are anticipating.

That's all for now but if you have other questions feel free to message us or comment below and we will try and answer them again. Don't worry we accept ALL questions, weird, funny or serious.

Till next time,

[M.I.Y]: Awesomize Your Makeup Brushes

Yay the first ever M.I.Y post! M.I.Y is basically Mixxed It Yourself, we totally cracked our brains for that title didn't we?! LOL Anyways  there is a little story to why this first M.I.Y episode was born...

I'm probably one of THE MOST unluckiest person in the world. Exaggerating much? Uhm I don't think so. I really am pretty darn unlucky, if you do believe in luck. Anyways, one day as my unlucky star strikes (again!) I dropped my brush and the end of it broke. I left this for a while but every time I use it, it just bugs the erk out of me! So I decided to put my "Creative Hat" on and revive the pretty little brush annnnnd here's the finish product...

If you want to do this as well then read on.

First you will need the following:

  1. Scotch Tape
  2. Nail Polish preferably dark and opaque
  3. Clear polish or even better Quick Dry

Now, here's the Before picture of my brush.

Step 1

Wrap a scotch tape to the top of the handle where the metal starts, keep the end of the tape open so it's easier to take out later.

Step 2 (The fun part!)

START PAINTING! For some sort of reason this is somewhat therapeutic. I was totally in Zen doing this. My chosen nail polish isn't as opaque as I hope it would be so I had to do 3 layers of the nail polish. If your polish is opaque then a good 2 layers should be fine.

Step 3

Let it dry a bit and then put clear polish or quick dry.

Step 4

Get a longer scotch tape and stick your brush out to the edge of a table to make sure it dries equally and also hinders you from messy up. *wink*

Step 5

I initially thought that my nail polish is enough but when I realized how much my brush reminds me of an eggplant I HAD to do something about it so in comes the Glitter works. This is totally up to you but if you do not know me well, then it's time you get used to my sparkly, glittery infatuation. I love everything bedazzled!

After showering glitter over my ex-eggplant brush I put on another layer of quick dry and tape it on the edge of the table again for overnight. I would think a few hours to dry is enough but as they say better safe than sorry.

So voila, here is my lovely glittery blush brush. I think I may have to do this to all my brushes because its so pretty.

I hope this trick works for you and do show us pictures of your little M.I.Y.

Let us know if you like to have more M.I.Y posts. :)

Till next time,
jCel ♥

[CHOWTIME]: Pho(24) the First Time!

After the long over time at work, Jcel and I decided to go to Shatin for early dinner.

At first we wanted to eat at Triple O but decided against it because we just had burgers the day before then we thought of Oliver's Sandwiches which was right beside Triple O, but it was way to expensive for a small portion of food. So we ended up with the restaurant called PHO24 and see what they have to offer. From the name itself, we knew that we were in for a Vietnamese treat.

First off, the receptionist was not too keen to have us. She was just staring at us and did nothing to convince us or bothered asking if we wanted seats. Good thing we did not need too much convincing since we were both famished and wanted food ASAP! The Staffs were stiff and seemed really busy even though there weren't a lot of people dining in. We felt like they were pre-occupied with their own things and not once have I seen them smile.

For the food, as mentioned earlier I was famished and so I decided to have beef curry brisket with steamed rice and Jcel had Pho noodles with sliced pork, mainly because she just wanted to say the word Pho as in pronounced as "fah". Moving on to our side dishes, we ordered stir fried vegetables, spring-rolls, buttered chicken wings and for drinks we both had lime sodas.

In all fairness the beef curry was just right for my taste the meat was properly cooked and soft thus not being too chewy. The curry was enough for 2, but knowing Jcel hates to chew (particularly pork and beef) I had it all to myself. The chicken wings were delicious as well and were good-sized wings and the flavor was just right. The vegetables were also good and of course the spring-rolls were amaze-balls dipped in vinegar and onions! We enjoyed every bit of it.

The Pho noodles on the other hand were a bit off, and I can see from Jcel's reaction that she did not enjoy her food. She said she has tasted better and opted to eat more chicken wings and most especially the spring-rolls wrapped with lettuce instead.

As for the place, it was an open area so people can just go in and out since there are no walls except for the divider in the middle. But also, the place was clean and the food was well presented. Despite the less enthused staffs, our dining was pretty much perfect.

Would I recommend it?!

- Yes, even though the staffs weren't as friendly as they should be, I do recommend their food besides the Pho. I would think that there are better tasting Pho out there. But their beef curry brisket and spring rolls are a must try. Also their prices were reasonable so I will definitely dine there again.
