Book Review for (Ah) June!

For this month I only had the opportunity to finish two books. The month of June was tremendously busy for me. But since it is irrelevant to talk about how busy I was in this blog I shant mention it.

Here’s what I have read;

1)            The Iron Knight

I have read the last 3 books and 2 short novellas of the Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa but I have mixed feelings for this one. I don’t know whether to ordain this as “I love this book”. But this is what I can say, compared to the other series, I think this is yet by far the best one because it has more humour which had me going and because this book gave more depth on Ash’s perspective on things. The other series has always portrayed him as the ice-cold-heartless-conceited prince from the winter court, but this series showed more on his vulnerable side and letting his guard down.

The Iron Knight is Ash’s journey to getting a soul to be able for him to be with his love, Meghan Chase (The Iron Queen) together with his frienemies Puck and the genuis cat Grimalkin.  As their journey went on, there were few unexpected characters, which I believe gave this installment more kick for the less-Iron Fey-freaks to read which in my case be so engrossed with it that I finished reading this book in less than 42hours.

The reason I have mixed feelings for this book is because, I did not like the ending at all – it was predictable. Actually, you do not need to finish the book to know how it will end. By just reading the summary, you know what’s bound to happen. I guess because I got my mind set on the Iron Queen’s ending which by the way was not the typical love story ending that one would anticipate and strangely, I liked it that way. I don’t know what I said in my review for Iron Queen, but now that I have come to think of it, I loved how it ended.  Maybe I wanted Ash to fail on his journey and that Meghan would end up choosing Puck? Oh … I don’t know! :D

Having said all that,  I have to admit that I did enjoy reading this book. Oh! and I heard there’s going to be another series, but this time it’s based on Ethan’s (Meghan’s little brother) journey into Nevernever. We’ll see how this one will go. J

2)   Take Control of Your Thoughts by Donald Shorter

This is a small book on taking control of your thoughts and aligning it to God’s Word. The author wrote about how one can control and deal with negative thoughts. He emphasized on renewing our minds with God’s Words.

He particularly encouraged Christians to stand firm in the Law of God. He encouraged them to deeply understand who they are in Christ and study his words every single day. Ignorance in His Law causes one to stumble and be chained with negative ideas and information. God’s Word is our daily bread and it is the one that sustains us from dealing every day battle with the enemies.

What I love about this book is it talks about a very sensitive yet profound topic. We all know that many thoughts can possibly come to mind. Worries, fear, lust, hatred, and all of this can be very harmful to us. If we do not learn to control them, all these things will control us. Christians are humans as well and goes through the same battle with any other people.

We live in a sinful world and there are many temptations out there. Satan tends to use worldly things to lure us to stepping into his trap by using our imagination, ideas and information that we receive everyday and without the word of God, we can fall into his trap. God's word is our weapon. Be equipped with God's word and align the things you do according to His words and promises.

Personally, I've struggled but knowing that I have Jesus Christ with me on this battle, there's nothing more assuring than that. I thank the Lord for His promises and for loving me even in my weakness.

Currently reading;

1) How to Read the Bible for All its Worth by Gordon D. Fee & Douglas Stuart

- I am currently reading this because it is a school requirement. But I doubt I’ll be able to put this on my July read. I find this book really interesting and at the same time confusing. What I understood so far is that "You have to have a solid exegesis to have a proper hermeneutics." I've only read until chapter 2, so there are 10 more chapters to go, loads of assignments to answers, a preliminary exam and finals. **Sigh**

2) Be Satisfied (Ecclesiastes): Looking for the Answer to the Meaning of Life  by Warren Wiersbe.

- This book is based on King Solomon taken from the bible in Ecclesiastes. I am currently half way through – hopeful to finish before July ends.

The previous currently reading list;
1) Delirium
2) Purpose Driven Life
3) Something Blue
4) Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul

But I think these are the books I'll never get to finish forever. (lol) Argh! I've updated my goodreads account and guess what? - I'm behind 13 books for my 50 book challenge. I smell defeat!
