Anyway first things first, my Book-It! picture for June.
So here’s my rundown June reads.
1. Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday
I was browsing for chicklits in Goodreads and came across GemmaHalliday and this book in particular was one of the highest ratings so mycuriosity was pique! I immediately went on a hunt for the free ebook. I believeI finish reading this book in less than a week but then again it isn’t a bigbook. After reading it –blissfully- I can see why it has such high ratings. Thisbook is just a dream to read. It is so easy, funny and quite intriguing.Although when I say that this is a mystery book I don’t mean that in a sense ofcracking your brain to find out the killer way. I think 5 chapters into thebook you will have a sense of who the killer would be but that didn’t reallybother me that much. I like this book and would recommend it to those who wantsto have a mindless reading, most probably under the sun with a glass of ice teaif you will.
2. Social Suicide by Gemma Halliday
This is actually the 2nd book of the Deadly Cool series.Yes if you haven’t known by now I like to read in series. Although the storyand plots are pretty much the same with the first book I also enjoyed this one.I felt that there’s more humor to this book than the 1st one whichis why I enjoyed it just as well.
3. Spying in Heel by Gemma Halliday
This is the first book for the series, High Heels Mystery. As much as I liked the 2 previous books fromthis author I must say I am a little disappointed with this one. Although thisseries is for the more mature audience there really isn’t much difference withthe Deadly Cool series plus I am not as intrigue about the mystery of this one.I felt that the author focuses more on the lifestyle of the female heroine thanthat of the mystery killer which is supposed to be the highlight of the book soI’m still deciding if I should find the other books under this series, maybenot.
4. The Serpent Shadow by Rick Riordan
Yay! Finally it is out! I’ve waiting for the 3rd book ofthe Kane Chronicles for ages. Is it worth the wait? I’m not really sure. To behonest I was expecting more action from this book since this is the last onebut it lacks a bit comparing to the 2 other book from this series. Plus there isn’t amuch humor in this book as well. I suppose their characters have evolved andbecame more matured but I miss the old Sadie and Carter banters. But I must say, I absolutely love the Anubis-Sadie-Walt love triangle twist. I totally did not expect the outcome! I enjoyed it and would recommend, of course you will have to start fromBook 1 of the Kane Chronicles to really enjoy it.
On a happier note, Marks of Athena (by Rick Riordan) is only a fewmore tumblings and cartwheels away. Expected publication date is October 2012, ISO CANNOT WAIT!!!
For my current reads, I’m finishing up Fifty Shades of Grey. Thishas gathered so much buzz that I have caved in to all the hype! I will let youknow how I feel towards this book in my next month post.
